About Anne:
Anne Wooleyhand holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from Crane School of Music in NY, a Master of Science Degree in Special Education from Western Maryland College, and a Graduate Certificate in Educational Leadership for Independent Schools from Johns Hopkins University.
Anne served as Head of Primary and Lower Schools at Glenelg Country School located in Howard County, Maryland until 2021 and now serves as the Educational Programs Director for the Marshall Legacy Institute (MLI) – a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting hope, growth, and stability to war-torn countries.
In 2008, then Head of Lower School at Glenelg Country School, Anne became involved with The Marshall Legacy Institute through the Children Against Mines Program (CHAMPS). Upon her retirement, Anne proudly joined the MLI staff where she utilizes her training and experience in working with diverse youth groups, leadership background, program development skills, and her passion for affecting positive global change, especially in the areas of leadership and civic engagement.
In 2022, Anne flew to Bosnia and brought retired mine detection dog, Rico Cosby, home to the United States. In June of 2022, Rico was named the 8th Canine Ambassador for the Marshall Legacy Institute. Through his new role, he has presented to over 6,500 people with a little more than 4,000 of them school children. Rico and Anne have presented to schools and organizations in 8 states on the east coast. He has appeared on Capitol Hill and has interacted with ambassadors from Azerbaijan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Cambodia.
Rico Cosby: The Heroic Work of a Mine Detection Dog
As a young puppy, MDD Rico never imagined that he would become a hero dog. He saved countless lives by sniffing out landmines in Bosnia-Herzegovina. After working for six years with his human handler, Rico retired and moved to the United States. Now eight years old, MDD Rico works as the Canine Ambassador for the Marshall Legacy Institute. Rico visits schools and organizations to raise awareness of the humanitarian impact of landmines and to demonstrate how dogs like him are working every day to save lives.
Proceeds from the sale of this book will be used to sponsor a life-saving mine detection dog.
